As you may be aware, polystyrene foam will eventually be removed from our shelves as part of a new National Plastics Plan created by the Australian Government commencing December 2022.
The main goal of this change is to eliminate the litter, cause by the use of food and beverage polystyrene foam containers. These products are non-biodegradable and is broken down into little pellets which animals mistake for food, causing death.
For many years polystyrene foam has been used throughout many eateries, however, after the research of the negative impacts it has on the economy and environment, it is now time to make a change!
What does this mean for Reliable?
As stock is beginning to become scarce, it is becoming difficult for our purchasing team to maintain levels of stock needed to provide for our customers. As a team, we have come to the decision to move away from supplying polystyrene foam goods and follow the Government’s decision to slowly eliminate these products within in our warehouse. We know this change may be difficult for some customers, however, please be assured that we have ample amounts of bio-degradable alternatives available that are more beneficial for our environment.
What does this mean for our customers?
Luckily, we do have many other options to replace this product for you all to use within your businesses. Visy Cardboard, Bio Way – Sugarcane containers and Beta Board Cardboard containers are all alternative products that are used within the food industry, that we have stock available of.
With increased takeaway packaging being used in our society – especially due to the effects of COVID-19, it is extremely important to ensure that we are using materials that can be recycled and are not harmful to the Earth.
